A Data Visualization and Interpretation System for Sensor Netwroks
نویسنده
چکیده
With the increase in applications for sensor networks, data manipulation and representation have become a crucial component of sensor networks. This chapter explores an implementation to process and interpret the data gathered by sensor networks. In a project supported by SensIT program at DARPA, we have built wireless sensor networks deployed to monitor rare plants or other endangered species. The environmental data, such as temperature, rainfall, and sunlight, around the plants are sent by the wireless sensor networks to a base station. The system presented in this chapter combines database management technology, geographic information system, and Web development technology to visualize the data gathered by the wireless sensor networks. The integration of our data visualization tools and the online collaborative discussion environment makes the system useful to different communities of potential users. INtrODUctION Of all the global problems in the biosphere we confront today, few would argue that the extinction of species and destruction of ecosystems have the most serious consequences, and they are irreversible. Worldwide, the preservation of rare species presents a major challenge. In Hawaii, there are numerous species of plants and animals. Many of them are found only in Hawaii and are currently threatened or endangered. In order to monitor the ecological environment and events around rare plants, the Pods project at the University of Hawaii has started to build wireless ad-hoc sensor networks (Biagioni & Bridges, 2002). A sensor network is a computer network made up of many spatially-distributed sensors which are used to monitor conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion, or pollutants. These sensors are usually small and inexpensive, so they can be deployed in large numbers. In a wireless ad hoc sensor

Ontology based approach for home data management
Context aware applications utilize environmental information which is usually collected by different sensors. For example, in smart homes environment’s embedded sensors provide such measurements of physical variables as temperature or lighting. However, the integration, interpretation and dissemination of context and sensor information are complex. This work describes the ontology based home ma...

متن کاملInteractive Visualization of Remote Sensing Data
Remote Sensing is an important tool for the analysis and interpretation of a wide range of global and regional conditions and processes on the earth. Airborne and spaceborne Remote Sensing systems produce a rapidly growing number of data sets, and improvements in sensor technology result in continuously increasing spatial and spectral resolutions of these data sets. To visualize Remote Sensing ...
متن کاملA new approach for data visualization problem
Data visualization is the process of transforming data, information, and knowledge into visual form, making use of humans’ natural visual capabilities which reveals relationships in data sets that are not evident from the raw data, by using mathematical techniques to reduce the number of dimensions in the data set while preserving the relevant inherent properties. In this paper, we formulated d...
متن کاملSecuring Cluster-heads in Wireless Sensor Networks by a Hybrid Intrusion Detection System Based on Data Mining
Cluster-based Wireless Sensor Network (CWSN) is a kind of WSNs that because of avoiding long distance communications, preserve the energy of nodes and so is attractive for related applications. The criticality of most applications of WSNs and also their unattended nature, makes sensor nodes often susceptible to many types of attacks. Based on this fact, it is clear that cluster heads (CHs) are ...
